Fall Randomness

Wrapped these books with wrapping paper this morning!

So last week my husband had surgery.  If you remember, he broke his femur 5 years ago (a motorcycle accident) and his leg has given him nothing but trouble since.  He had it fixed last week so now his leg should be good as new again.  Anyway, this week I've been playing nurse, mom, decorator, business owner, taxi driver, choir banquet coordinator
and housekeeper and it has been a bit overwhelming.

Painted my gold mirror "high gloss white" and moved it into my entry.

However, this weekend I'm enjoying having all the windows open since the weather is getting cooler!  I have had a chance to do some tweaking around MY house for a change.  My husband's friend came to pick him up to get him out of the house a bit so I'm enjoying a little bit of "me" and quiet time.

I had a chance to paint this "random" painting.  Decided to paint over the previous one I did about 10 years ago using new, fresh colors.  I woke up early and couldn't sleep so I got my acrylic paints out and started creating.  I think it represents the "chaos" that life  deals out sometimes but life is still beautiful amidst the chaos.

Now hung in my entry way, it goes beautifully with my other décor.

We have been blessed to have had our friends from church bring us meals each night this past week which has been an incredible help to me since my hubby is the cook  in this family!  So grateful for good friends in my life that have cared for us so well during this time.
Last night some of our friends dropped by with warm cookies and milk from Tiff's Treats.  So delicious and thoughtful.  If you haven't tried Tiff's Treats, they are amazing and they deliver to your door!

I'm ready for fall and next on my list is to get out all my fall décor as well as my winter clothes and boots!  I love this time of year.    Turquoise and orange = yummy!

My colors in my home always go so beautifully with my fall décor so it gets me excited each year when I start pulling them out.  I've put two mercury glass pumpkins on top of my new vintage china cabinet and they look so pretty!  I love the way they reflect the light!

Last years décor!  Remember the tip I gave about how  clear shoe polish works beautifully to get pumpkins shiny!  Just make sure you buff really well.

 Happy Saturday Ya'll

Pumpkin Makeover

All the postings I've been seeing lately on Pinterest and Facebook about painting pumpkins made me decide to transform one of my lovelies!

BEFORE

AFTER
All I did is paint these stripes with black acrylic paint.  Easy as 1 2 3.
We have giant rocks outside our house and in the past I've had trouble keeping the pumpkins from blowing away or falling off the rocks.

This year I found a wrought iron rack at a garage sale and decided it would be perfect for my pumpkins to keep them secure.   Don't know what it would have been used for previously?  All I know is that it will be great for my Christmas decor too!

Mr. scarecrow got a new hat this year too.

Mrs. Scarecrow loves her new digs too. "Groovy" isn't she?

I've added pumpkins outside....

and inside too!  Love this time of year!

Here's a link to a post I did a while back about decorating pumpkins

Scarecrow Attire

I'm pulling out all the fall decor today!  I decided that my scarecrow needed to be "GROOVY" this year!

I had everyone in the thrift store excited as this scarecrow rode around in the cart while I selected her attire!  I turned lots of heads!

It's okay for a scarecrow to be a girl right?

Enjoy your weekend!

Best dressed scarecrow

It's finally cool here in Texas and I'm elated.
This year my scarecrow got a new wardrobe!  I decided that we needed to ditch the straw hat that she's worn the past 4 years.  She  needed a makover and I made her a leopard print bandanna.

I gave her a new scarf and a colorful fall flower around her neck!  She's quirky but I like her.  The dog barks and barks every time she sees her thinking that someone new is about to intrude.
She sits ever so nicely on my pool rocks along with my pumpkins.  I get to admire her from my living room window and she makes me smile.  She's scared me a time or two already though, almost jumped out of my skin.
I need to find a black crow to put on her shoulder and she will be perfect!
I added a touch of fall to our Gazebo patio table too.  This time of year always gets me excited about being with friends and family and the anticipation of the holiday season around the corner gets the kids all excited too.
The texture of these gourds make me think of being out in the woods.  Something so peaceful and restful about natural things.
Hope you've had fun putting your fall things out.  I find it very therapeutic.

Crazy and beautiful pumpkins to inspire

Here are a few ideas I thought you might like for the Fall season.  The beauty of our fall decor is that you can have it out for a few months (October & November) so it's worth doing something special.
Wow, don't you just love this pumpkin.  These are thumb tacks (nail heads).  Make yourself a template and go to town!  You could even use coffee beans here and glue gun them on.

This is the cutest thing!  If you really wanted to have some fun and be a little quirky, go at it with this fun lampshade.  Isn't the nose fabulous!
Kids would have a blast carving these.
This witch is absolutely darling.  I'm not that crazy into witches but she is lots of fun!
.
This is just wire curved with pliers and inserted into the pumpkin.
Cute little hair bows add the finishing touch to these boots.
This design is created with a sharpie!
Sequence is used on the below pumpkin but you could use a sharpie here too, makes the pumpkin have some fun detail.
Adding some sticks from your yard, a bit of moss, pine cones, berries, pumpkins and you have a great centerpiece or entry piece.  The beauty of all this is it lasts all the way through Thanksgiving.
Simple gold ribbon adds a soft touch.
I love simplicity like this for the kitchen counter, bar area, even for the back of the toilet..
Again, simple yet beautiful.
To do this above, just put another vase inside the big vase.  Fill the candy corn in between both vases and then add your flowers to the one you inserted.
Spray paint your pumpkins to change it up a little.  Who said you can't do this.
My girls are dying to try this!
Love adding spindles, antique urns, etc. to the arrangement to bring in some charm and character.
Very inviting if you have a front gate!
We all  have glass vases around.  Fill them with nuts, pears, acorns.
Awesome entry or back porch ideas.  It's all about the different heights of these items.  Creating different levels makes the scale look put together.  Notice how the same thing is done on the table.  Different heights make your eye notice all the details.
You can get items for the above pumpkin at any craft store in their jewelry section.  Ears could even be door handles or pulls.
These are just created by using something that makes a nice big hole.  Punch through and you have something stunning all lit up!
Always forget about artichokes and pomegranates but they add lots of color.  We all have some kind of ceramic bowl or urn you can use to put all these items in.  Add some candles and you are set.
Corn adds some great texture.

These are doilies!!  Cheap idea and oh so cute.
Okay, my creative adrenaline is bubbling.   Hope yours is too!
