Vintage Camper Decor

In my last post, I commented on how I was going to make new curtains for our RV (or have someone else make them).  I've been doing some Internet searching to get ideas and have found some great old vintage campers I thought I'd share with you.  These campers are so incredibly fun!  I'd love to restore one and make it fabulous!  Take a look at these cute redo's.

Not perfect but so charming.
My mom still has one of these sunflower food covers.
Needs some work but real sweet.

Yeah, here comes sunshine!
Perfectly restored.
I often get RV lust when we are out in our RV because we are often surrounded by RVs like this one!  Don't get me wrong, I love our RV, it is not too shabby...but these....whew!!!
They are beautiful and the insides of these traveling homes are amazing!!  Wood floors, granite, washer dryers, several plasma TV's, etc.  Makes your vacation very luxurious!  But something in me loves one that I could fix up even better!  I could make it my own, add some spunk and personality to it.
I came across this website Snailtrail.com and went absolutely nuts.  I had to share some of the pictures with you.  You can go to their website to read about each of these wonderful vintage campers.
These 2009 Volkswagen retro-campers can be hired. They each have a fun old fashioned name.  These campervans are some of the very last to be built with traditional, air-cooled engines - giving the feel and that nostalgic, rumbling sound of the VW camper originals.  All images from SNAILRAIL.COM.

Somebody please tell me what the flamingo stands for?  It was the topic of our conversation on our last camping trip.  Retirement?

or chocolate shop?
I'd even love one of these for a guest house.  Hmmm..... I might have to get onto that one!  Air conditioning would have to be a must in this Texas heat!

Happy weekend!

Rest and Relaxation

Every family needs rest and relaxation.  We love to camp as a family!  We will take our RV and camp right by the water somewhere peaceful.   This past weekend was one of those times.  There is something about being out in nature that makes you STOP EVERYTHING and enjoy!  No phones, no Internet (well we did find wifi) and no house chores to do!   I love being home but being away from home makes me turn my creative juices off a little so I can revamp and get refreshed.  I'm constantly decorating and creating in my head!
This is the view I looked at each morning while drinking my coffee!  The kids are getting ready to go out in the canoe to fish!
Does life get any better than this?  Cousin memories forever!
I caught up on some reading, chat time with my sister-in-law, time with my daddy and his wonderful wife!
It was awesome!
We are going to do more of this during the summer!  In Between decorating installs, camps, piano lessons, sewing classes, etc.
Life is good when you take time to be with family and RELAX a little.
I did decide that I'm going to have new curtains made for the RV!!!  Gotta do a little decorating.
CAMP ON!!!

Quick change with paint and new accessories

I love what I do because there are always dramatic changes that takes place.
Sometimes it's big things like totally gutting a master bathroom or kitchen.  Other times it is small changes like paint and accessories that can make a huge impact to any space!  I'm working with a client right now and we are slowly updating rooms.  It's a work in progress and it is making some drastic changes to their home.  We started with painting this beautiful living room.  Now I'm accessory shopping and "using what they have" as well as adding items like rugs, lamps, pillows, pictures, drapes, plantation shutters, etc.
BEFORE PAINTING
AFTER PAINTING
Now these columns have some grandeur and welcome you into their home.  Before they looked so formal.  Now they look classy and add so much more character to this room.  NOTICE that we painted the ceiling the same color as the walls.  The crown molding matches the columns.
Crown molding can make a room.  Scan up to the before picture, do you see the crown molding?  Nope!  Now look a the after, see what a difference it made!  It's the eyebrow of the room!
This rug is gorgeous and pulls out the wonderful blue color that we put on the walls.
Having drapes made with these fabrics.
This chair just looks so formal and stiff. I purchased the below pillow and it will make it so much more comfortable and casual.
Love this pattern.
Lampshades create the mood in the room!
Pillow for couch.  Using some of the existing ones but updating with pillows that coordinate with wall color.
You've got to have some solid color pillows to break up the patterns.
This lamp is for their dining room.  Love it!  It will marry the two rooms together.
I'll keep you posted with the progress!

Quilling; an amazing art

I met with a client today and she had some amazing artwork in her home that I commented on.  She loves "Quilling" which is a craft using paper that turns into an incredible design.

When I got home, I decided to look up this fascinating art and found all kinds of beautiful items that have been created by some amazing artists.

If I learned how to quill, I would decorate boxes and gift bags!

History of Quilling

During the Renaissance, Nuns and Monks were inspired by metal filigree of the past to decorate book covers and religious items. They used gilded paper strips in order to imitate the original metal wires. The name "Quilling" is said to be derived from the fact that the Nuns and Monks originally used feather quills as their tool to roll the paper. Later, the craft spread throughout Europe and to the Americas, where it was considered to be an appropriate hobby for the "Ladies of Leisure" of the time. Newspaper advertisements for some boarding schools in the American Colonies listed "Quill-Work" among the subjects taught.

For some reason, Paper Quilling seemed to have faded during the late 1800's.  During the middle of this centry Quilling reemerged.  Today, thanks to the enthusiasm, knowledge, and skills of artists from around the world, this captivating paper art is back to stay.  My client is one of these artists and her art is AMAZING. She has one several competitions at the State Fair and can get lost in the detail of each creation.

Here are a few that I came across that I thought were beautiful.
Fun picture frame!  My daughter's would love this!  This might be a craft we learn over the summer.
Look at this detail.  Wouldn't you love to receive this card in the mail?
This could be an ornament for your tree or just placed in a shadow box!
Just look at the detail!!!
My favorite!
Great for baby announcements.
So personal!
Great way to frame your wedding invitation.

It was fun to research about "quilling" and if I get a chance, I'll see if I can share my client's artwork with you.  She is extremely talented.  She plays the harp as well and has a music room with several harps.  What a beautiful sound the harp makes.
So classy!!
Fun collection.
Yellow and blue always compliment each other so beautifully~

Soft colors.... so soothing and stunningly beautiful.  The stem looks so real.

So so so so adorable.
This butterfly is one of my ultimate favorites.  The color combinations and the extreme detail blows me away!
Hope you have a great short week!
My website is down right now while we do some updates.  I'm hoping it will be up again soon.
