Inspirational Entry

I usually gravitate towards warm colors on the wall and warm furniture pieces. For those of you that know me, I'm not afraid of color.   However, for some reason this very simple entry vignette I just fell in love with.  I wish I knew who to credit but I tore this out of a magazine several years ago.

If someone can help me, please comment.
What makes this entry so attractive is the combination of textures.  This collection of items would be perfect for someone who has a small entry but wants to make a statement.  The light walls with a similar color mirror makes the entry seem bigger.  The mirror texture gives ALL the interest and says "wow" when you enter.  Don't you just love the unexpected color of this table too.  The casual feel about it makes this room less pretentious and takes away from the formality of the space.  The wall sconces are to die for and I'm sure they look spectacular at night.  Can you just imagine the glow against those beautiful pure white walls.  Even the candles in the lanterns are so simple here but say gorgeous.  The big white armchair is perfect because it allows the table to shine!  It doesn't even need a pillow.  The antique leather side chair adds a masculine touch and completes the whole vignette, especially since the mirror has these warm tones in it.   Without the leather chair, this vignette wouldn't be so stunning.  Placing an interest piece of furniture underneath this entry table speaks volumes about the person that lives in this house.  They probably travel and have collected some of these items over time.  I love the balance that it gives with the sconces above, very pleasing to your eye.
Just thought I'd share something beautiful with you today.
Happy Weekend!  I'm hosting a fall brunch at my house with friends and family and will tell you all about it next week!

Spain and then Paris

I'm incredibly excited because we're taking our family to Spain for 10 days in November.   We've been planning this trip for a few months now and can't wait to see our friends that live there.  They are going to show us around and give us all the inside scoop. My husband and I both grew up overseas so traveling is in our blood.

We both can't wait to see some of the sights but most of all we are looking forward to just living in the culture.  I want to go to all the non touristy places, eat where the locals eat and go to the markets that the locals go to.  Our friends have all the spots since they have been there for 2 years now.  This makes us really excited!  My husband is an incredible cook so he can't wait to find a great recipe, go to the local market and cook us all an amazing dinner!

I will be driving around local neighborhoods taking pictures too!
Last week the two husbands called each other and planned an additional detail to our trip.  I love a man that plans a trip!  When I came home one day last week, he had a look of glee written all over his face.  I knew he was up to something.  He said "well, we're going to fly over Paris for 3 days while we're in Spain."  Okay, I had to sit down because I was SO SO excited.  My daughter's were both bouncing off the walls with me.
Now I get to talk to my friends at the The Red Shed Antiques  so they can give me all their flea market shopping spots to go to since they go every year!  They also own a travel agency so have all the great experiences to share!
I know I'm going to find some treasures and that thrills me!  I'm already clearing things out in my house to make room for the new things!  The last time we went to England, my husband hauled back an old engine for the vintage car he was restoring.  We had to wrap it, haul it, get the monstrocity through customs, pay lots of $$$ for it to get through customs, make sure it had no oil leaking,  and to top it off I got incredibly embarrased when it came off the luggage belt.  It made a horrible LOUD clunk when it landed and all eyes were on us!!  Now it's my turn, ha!  This is a great time to remind him of what I've done for him.  I can bring back whatever I want to, and believe me I will.
The countdown is beginning!

Jumping for joy over pumpkins and mums

Yes this is real, can  you believe the color???  I actually jumped up and down when I found these at the Colleyville Farmers Market today!
I went into this local market because they ALWAYS have beautiful mums for the fall.
Here is one of the ones I purchased for my front porch.  You can see where I put the old antique shovel that I posted about a month ago.  I'll find some raffia to tie around it and it will be perfect.
I had to have this "perfect" pumpkin - crazy about the color!
Notice the sheen on them.  I asked how they do this and one of the worker's at the market told me they wash them really well, getting ALL the dirt off the pumpkins.  They then dry them really well and spray a satin sheen on them.  You need a very light coat because apparently it can run!
Try doing this yourself, I'm sure you'll have great success and your pumpkins will be divine!  Doesn't the sheen look incredible.   I'm loving mine!

Visit Colleyville Farmers Market.  Very friendly staff and incredible fresh vegies and fruit.  They also have a variety of homemade dips and sauces which my family has grown to LOVE!
