K Hovnanian Homes Model in Colleyville

Yesterday I finally got a chance to go in and see a beautiful model home here in Colleyville.  The home is not far from me and I've been dying to take a tour for a couple weeks now.
When you have an addiction like I have when it comes to interior design, seeing signs like this make you go crazy, especially if you are going from client to client and don't have a second to go in and check it out.

Thank you Aleasha Ross for showing me around!  She wasn't sure who their decorator was in this home but is going to find out for me so I can put a link to his website.
I thought the pictures I took would be fun to share with you and hopefully give you some ideas for your home.  I tried to capture lots of the accessories, more than the entire room, that way you could really see some ideas up close and personal.
This is a beautiful neighborhood.  They are single family homes and range from the 360's on up.  Cool thing is that they do all the exterior upkeep!
These pictures should give you a great taste of the homes quality as well as a chance to see the beautiful decor.
This is the home I'm going to take you in!
Warm inviting front door.  Great thing about it was that it is a dark ebony on the inside.
Come in with me!
ENTRY
Formal Dining Area
When I entered this house, I was totally struck by the beautiful colors - always a good idea to use vibrant colors for the room that is right off your entry.  Of course in this model home it's especially good because you want future buyer's to LOVE the house within the first few minutes of being in the space.  The more inviting you can make it the better.  This goes for your home too.  Your guests should feel welcome and relaxed when entering.
Color can make that statement for you!
Window overlooks the community fountain.
The feel in this room is very calming but it also has great pops of color.  There is a modern and traditional feel to this space which makes it understated with nothing too formal or off-limits.
Every family wants their home to be functional and practical!  However just because it's functional and practical doesn't mean it can't be gorgeous!
The living room and kitchen flow seamlessly into each other.  The house is filled with lots of light which is very important in a home.
Great idea for place mat - fold in corners for decorative look for a dinner party.
The leaf motif is beautiful and adds texture.  It coordinates nicely with the rug too.  Love how it goes different directions.
Consider using round rugs in your kitchen areas.

Love the place mat. Layering the plates with texture and color makes this dramatic.

I want to know where they got those noodles?  Anyone?
Don't over decorate above your kitchen cabinets.  Less is more and large scale items are better.
Here is the leaf motif again.  Notice how it isn't "matchy" it compliments.
These are the small details that make a space come together.  Anyone can pick fabrics they love but a decorator is the one who ultimately is gifted in putting all these colors, shapes & textures together to make it pleasing to your eye without being all the same color and shape.
Nice back patio, perfect for chatting.  This vignette would definitely draw me outside!
Painting's don't always have to be hung straight.  Give them a twist and hang them on an angle, especially on a staircase.  I love it when there are fewer things and one large item that gives lots of color and character.
Cozy window seat.
Master bedroom.  Beautiful relaxing colors.
If you are not going to have a conversational area in your master, at least have a  "cuddle" chair.
Love the sparkle that this lamp adds.
Of course the designer had to add a sparkley pillow too!  Pulling it all together.  Again, it's all about the details!
This paisley chair is gorgeous!  Nice masculine touch but isn't too strong.
Love the bathsalts in the bathroom.  Adding the spoons to them makes it even better.  When staging a house, details like this make you feel like someone already lives here and you can start to picture yourself in that space.  Again, a detail that is often forgotten;  these are the things that decorator's think of and add to your space.  You want to "use what you have."
Seems that a lot of the newer homes, especially if the master is upstairs, are incorporating coffee bars in the master bathroom.  I'm all over that idea.  The color of the mugs are perfect and match the bedding beautifully.  Nice when you feel like you are in a hotel in your own master.
Cute idea for above the window instead of a drape or cornice.
Invest in your master suite, even if it is just painting it.  You spend a lot of time in this room.  Even if you just add a calming color to the walls, that's a good start.  Our master space can boost our mood each day and also makes couples spend time together in that intimate space. Make it an escape, that's what it should be!  Too often forgotten about with our busy lives.

Sports related game room.   It's perfect for tv watching and game playing.  If you have a bedroom that you aren't using, turn it into a tv/game room.  Make use of every room in your house.  No space should go wasted.  Re-evaluate each room in your home.  Do you use the space?  If you don't then make another plan for that room.
Sectionals are a great solution for a small space.  Allows for more seating.
Yes, these are painted - aren't they awesome.  Look so real!
What boy wouldn't want this?  Young or old?
Such a glamorous room for a high school student who is on the dance team or a cheerleader.
Notice all the fun whimsical patterns in different sizes.  The black and white is stunning.  Red & black are definitely colors that demands and attract the most attention.  Of course, isn't that what teenager's want too?
Love the panther paw prints around the perimeter of the room.
Seen this before on a window, such a cute idea.
If I was looking at this home and had a teenager daughter, I'd want the room because it had a Twilight book in my space.  Good idea on the decorator's part.
Guest bedroom.
Of course, this house is "staged" to sell and this decorator did an incredible job making it very attractive.  When you hire a decorator to "personalize" your home, their job will be to also add some unique decoration inside and outside to add your personal history.
Personal history is what makes a HOUSE a HOME!
As I was driving out of the neighborhood, I noticed that most of the houses were already all decked out for fall.  It's always important when consideriing a neighborhood to look and see what the neighbors are doing to their houses around you.  Are they keeping them nice?  Do they have nice curb appeal?  Always improving?  This is the kind of neighborhood you want to invest in.

Scentsy Candles - This week's favorite thing.

Okay, last week I went into my orthodontist's office and they had scentsy candles fragrance throughout their whole office.  It smelled just like fall and made my day!!!

I asked all about them at the front desk and they gave me the scoop.  They are wonderful because it is wax that you melt and place into a beautiful ceramic vase of your choice.  It melts the wax and then you can pour it back into the storage mold and re-use another time.  You can choose lots of fragrances and decide what mood you are in and melt the one you love.

I don't know about you, but I get sick of the same thing burning each week.  I LOVE CHANGE.

Call Tiffany Ross at 817-253-2975 if you would like to hear more about them.  She is a local representative for our area.  They make perfect gifts for the holiday's.

Everyone needs the color black in a room

I found these hand painted botanicals the other day.  There was a grouping of 3 and I couldn't pass them all up for $25 total.  I got so excited about them because black ALWAYS makes a statement in a room. They can be placed next to each other in a row or stacked above each other.   For those clients that have worked with me you've heard me say that each room in your home should have a touch of black.  You don't want to overdo it but it's an easy way to make a room look very sophisticated and incredibly classy.
All three botanicals are slightly different.  I have them in my bathroom right now and I like them up against the terra cotta walls.  We'll see if they stay there.
The botanicals above reminded me of a client's room I posted about 2 years ago .  I used these black scrolled wooden panels as the focal point in this room.  The space had such a large wall that I needed something strong to draw you into the room.  The client wanted to use the existing furniture so we stuck to her budget because that's what DecRenew is all about.  We just added some beautiful down filled pillows, lamps, and a few accessories and she had a very inviting living room when we finished.  Notice how the embroidered pillows that have black as their background make the whole couch come together.  This room wasn't used before and now I think it will be lived in because it is conversational, warm and comfortable.

Their staircase was black wrought iron so it coordinated well with their newly decorated living room.  We hung this fabric tapestry that looks like leather on the staircase wall, flanked with wrought iron scroll work on each side.  It was crazy installing this piece because the landing wasn't that spacious.
This little wine bar was under the stairs but they never used it.  I placed an oil painting over the wine slots.  The painting was the perfect size and it adds so much interest to this little spot.  Another good way to use a wine cabinet if the client isn't that into wine is to fill it with magazines.  In this room it would have been too cluttered so the simplicity of this painting is what it needed.
On a slightly different subject, I found these lamps this week too.  I couldn't pass them up because of the shelving that is used as it's base.  Aren't these amazing for someone that has a limited amount of space.  These could even be mounted to the wall.
Very functional and being black they would really add some strength to any bedroom.  Handsome!
I challenge you to try adding some black to your rooms, you'll love it!

Pumpkin Decor

Well, it FINALLY feels like fall so I thought it was time to post some fall ideas.
I was out and about this week and found these fabulous glass pumpkin's and couldn't pass them up.  Aren't they stunning?
So beautiful and unique!
I also finished decorating for fall and thought you might get some ideas.  You don't have to clear out all your accessories to bring in each season.  If you do that, then you have too much of a good thing and it will be over decorating.  Here are a few examples of changing it up simply and still getting a big impact.
"All Natural" elements gathered together to create a grouping really adds great scale and interest.
When natural colors are placed on a splash of color it really makes a statement.
I love looking out my window above my kitchen sink at my scarecrow. Reminds me that it's cool outside. I can almost smell the fires burning, feel the family around me & smell the pumpkin spice in the air.

Of course, you've all seen this done before. I just happen to have the perfect candelabra on my mantel that is normally full of concrete balls. I've just exchanged a few of them with white pumpkins for the season.

I can see my scarecrow from my living room too.  My dog doesn't like it too much and keeps barking at him thinking he is an intruder.  I hope he doesn't spook me at night.

Added a few fall leaves to this vase that already had my collection of drift wood in it.
Found some glass leaves from last year that I got on a gift package someone gave me.  Re-used them this year around my soap by my kitchen sink.  Anyone recognize them?  I think I received the gift at my annual fall brunch.

Love these wrought iron pumpkins.  They are suppose to have a candle in them but I like them standing alone.
Several choices here for my dining table.  Love to play around and see what I come up with.  All things I already had just mixing it up a little.
Added some gourds, antler's and pumpkins to the entry table.
Which one do you like?
Added some decorative garland to the entry table.  Adds some great texture

Love these colors in the garland because they aren't the "typical" oranges that you see for fall.  It's always nice to have something out of the ordinary.
Last year I found these white pumpkins on sale when the season ended.  Don't they look real?  I usually don't like fake pumpkins but these are working for me.    I'm going to have to plant my fall flower's soon but just couldn't get rid of these yet since they were still blooming.  Now that it is cool here in Texas, I'll have to get busy planting my mums or pansies.
Love my lazy scarecrow.  His name is Herman and I'd love to sit by him and ask him how he's doing this year after a year in the attic?  I love the black wrought iron chair he's sitting in and was so happy when I found it at a patio sale for $10.00 a couple years ago.  This chair would be great indoors too.
Ava, my dog, doesn't like the above scarecrow either.  I had to take her out and introduce him to her.   My girls say the scarecrow's are guarding our house.
I added a ceramic pumpkin to my coffee bar candlestick.  Candles get kind of boring after a while so it's nice to have a change.
